Backpacks
Extra portable storage you carry with you and open with a right-click.
Last updated August 2026. Part of the VortexXtra Item Catalog.
The Tiers
| Backpack | Storage Slots |
| Leather Backpack | 9 |
| Copper Backpack | 18 |
| Iron Backpack | 27 |
| Gold Backpack | 36 |
| Diamond Backpack | 45 |
| Netherite Backpack | 54 (also fireproof) |
Right-click any backpack to open it, just like a portable chest. Each backpack is tied to its own unique storage instance, so your Leather Backpack's contents stay separate from anyone else's Leather Backpack.
The Cooler
A specialized backpack with 27 food-only slots. Store food inside it and it'll automatically feed you when your hunger runs low, no need to dig through your inventory mid-fight.
The Ender Backpack
Not extra storage of its own, this one's a portal straight to your Ender Chest. Right-click it to open your Ender Chest from wherever you are. It can be linked to a specific owner, so you always know whose Ender Chest you're looking at.
How They're Made
Every backpack tier is crafted by upgrading the tier before it at the Crafting Altar, each recipe centers on the previous backpack, surrounded by Leather (or Cloth at the top end) and a Gold Carat Bar of increasing purity:
| Backpack | Upgrades From | Gold Carat Needed | Level |
| Leather Backpack | (starting tier, uses a plain Chest) | 6-Carat | 5 |
| Copper Backpack | Leather Backpack | 10-Carat | 10 |
| Iron Backpack | Copper Backpack | 14-Carat | 15 |
| Gold Backpack | Iron Backpack | 16-Carat | 20 |
| Diamond Backpack | Gold Backpack | 22-Carat | 25 |
| Netherite Backpack | Diamond Backpack | 24-Carat | 30 |
The Cooler is a separate recipe, Cloth, an Aluminum Ingot, and a Cooling Unit, at level 15.
The Ender Backpack is its own recipe too: Ender Lump Tier 3, Leather, and an Ender Chest, at level 20.
A Few Notes
- All backpacks are single-item, non-stackable, you carry one at a time per slot.
- Higher tiers simply mean more room, there's no other functional difference between them besides the Cooler's auto-feed behavior.
- Since each backpack tier upgrades from the last, you can't skip straight to a Netherite Backpack, you'll need to work through every tier below it first.
