Brewing & Recipes

How to actually brew a drink, and what you can make.

Last updated August 2026. Part of the VortexSpirits system.

How Brewing Works

Brewing here uses a normal vanilla Brewing Stand, just with custom recipes layered on top.

  1. Place a Brewing Stand and fuel it with Blaze Powder, same as vanilla.
  2. Put a Water Bottle in one of the bottom slots.
  3. Add the recipe's first ingredient to the top slot to start the brew.
  4. Wait for it to finish - your bottle turns into a custom potion, tinted and labeled for whatever you're making.
  5. Most drinks take multiple rounds. Once the first stage finishes, feed the next ingredient in the chain to advance it another tier. Recipes range from 3 to 8 tiers depending on the drink.
  6. Once a bottle reaches its final tier, it's labeled ready to drink.

Trying to drink an unfinished brew won't work, you'll get a warning that it isn't ready yet.

A few things to watch out for while brewing:

  • Don't break the brewing stand or move it with a piston mid-process, it'll interrupt the brew.
  • Don't try mixing vanilla brewing ingredients (redstone, glowstone dust, gunpowder, dragon's breath, fermented spider eye, nether wart) into a stand that's already brewing a custom drink.
  • If the ingredient gets pulled out mid-brew, the process cancels.

Available Drinks

23 drinks exist across a handful of categories. Run /drinks in-game any time for the full current list, or grab a Brewing Guide book for the exact recipe of each one.

Beers

Beer, Dark Beer, Wheat Beer

Wines & Meads

Wine, Red Wine, Mead, Apple Mead, Apple Cider

Spirits

Whiskey, Gin, Vodka, Tequila, Rum, Crown Royale, Jägermeister, Absinthe, Green Absinthe, Mushroom Vodka

Liqueurs & Misc

Apple Liquor, Grain Alcohol, Irish Coffee, Spiked Eggnog, Evil Juice

Each drink has its own potency and effects when consumed, some hit harder than others, and a couple (Jägermeister, Evil Juice) have their own unique flavor text when you drink them. Higher-potency drinks (potency 15+) also give you a "burning sensation" message on the way down.

There's rumored to be a 24th, joke recipe out there that's less about drinking and more about wasting something valuable. If you find it, you'll know.

Once you've got something finished, drink it and see Being Drunk for what happens next.
